  • Sea Moss Salad

  • Seaweed salad is a customary Japanese side dish. It is packed with fiber, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants and is very nourishing and filling. Although there are many health advantages to enjoying a homemade seaweed salad, it is advisable not to eat it more than two to three times a week to prevent excessive iodine intake.

    Ingredients (for one serving):

    • Twenty grams of dry mixed sea moss (you can also use other seaweed besides sea moss)
    • One tablespoon of sesame seeds (toasted)
    • One scallion (finely chopped)

    Ingredients for the salad dressing:

    • One tablespoon of sesame oil
    • One tablespoon of soy sauce
    • One tablespoon of rice vinegar
    • One tablespoon of cane sugar
    • Half a teaspoon of ginger juice
    • Salt (to taste)

    Method:

    1. Soak the dried sea moss in a bowl in cold water for approximately 15 minutes until it becomes rehydrated.
    2. In the meantime, mix all the ingredients for the salad dressing in another bowl and whisk them together until a smooth texture is achieved.
    3. Strain the soaked sea moss in a colander and wash it well. Squeeze the sea moss firmly to extract the maximum amount of water.
    4. Plate the sea moss in either a bowl or a small plate and place the salad dressing over the top. Garnish with sesame seeds and diced scallions.
